The evening food walk in Bhubaneswar that I would repeat anytime

The evening food walk in Bhubaneswar that I would repeat anytime

Exploring Bhubaneswar’s temples during the day made me realise how much a good location can shape an evening plan. After returning to my hotel, I wanted somewhere nearby where I could simply step out and explore. That was when my evening food walk became one of my favourite parts of the trip. I discovered busy market areas, small vegetarian food spots, sweets and familiar local flavours without planning every stop.

Why the right location makes Bhubaneswar easier to explore

Once I started planning my evenings around food, I looked at hotels differently. A convenient location meant I could return after sightseeing, relax and head out again without spending too much time travelling.

Areas with good road connections and easy access to local transport were particularly useful. They gave me flexibility when I wanted to change plans or explore another food option. I also preferred staying near busy commercial neighbourhoods, where restaurants, snack stalls and sweet shops were easier to find. This made the evening feel spontaneous rather than scheduled.

Hotels in Bhubaneswar that made my itinerary easier

When choosing hotels in Bhubaneshwar for this kind of trip, I looked beyond the list of facilities. Location mattered more because I wanted to spend my evenings outside exploring. A well-connected base made it easier to return after daytime sightseeing, take a short break and head out again without spending too much time travelling.

Located in Jaydev Vihar on Nandankanan Road, Swosti Premium works well for travellers who want access to major roads while staying in a well-established part of the city. The hotel’s own location guide also lists Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Biju Patnaik International Airport (BBI) and several major attractions among nearby destinations.

Set in Nayapalli, Trident offers a practical base for travellers arriving by air or rail. Its official site places the hotel around 15 minutes from Ekamra Kshetra and within minutes of the railway station and major business districts. That makes it useful when sightseeing forms only part of a wider Bhubaneswar itinerary.

Situated on Mayfair Road in Jayadev Vihar, MAYFAIR Lagoon is another option for travellers who prefer staying in a well-connected central area. Its location can work particularly well when you want to combine daytime sightseeing with an evening food walk, without making every outing dependent on a long cross-city journey.

The Bhubaneswar areas that made the food walk memorable

The first place I would return to is Saheed Nagar, particularly around its market and commercial streets. The area has a broad mix of vegetarian restaurants, snack outlets and street-food options. Current listings show several vegetarian and street-food choices operating around the neighbourhood.

I also liked the surroundings of Unit 1 Market. The market has numerous stalls and is particularly suited to an afternoon or evening visit. Unit 4 offers another option if you want a less concentrated food walk. What I enjoyed most was not having to decide everything beforehand. I could walk around, notice something interesting, and make the next stop part of the evening.

What I enjoyed eating during the Bhubaneswar walk

I wanted to keep the evening varied rather than sitting down for one large meal. That meant starting with something light, walking for a while and then stopping again when another option caught my attention.

Dahibara aludum was one of the local specialities I wanted to try. I also enjoyed looking for gupchup, chaat and sweets, which are easy choices when you want to sample different flavours without committing to a full meal.

For a proper vegetarian meal, Saheed Nagar also has several choices. For example, Atithi Devo Bhaba lists vegetarian thalis and other traditional Odia options, while The Veg House offers North Indian, Indo-Chinese and Continental vegetarian choices.

Why I would repeat this Bhubaneswar evening

By the end of the evening, I realised that the food walk had become more memorable than another carefully planned sightseeing stop. There was something enjoyable about walking without constantly checking the next destination.

The best part was the freedom to change plans. I could stop for a snack, browse a market, sit down for dinner and continue walking afterwards. Having a hotel in a convenient location made that flexibility possible.

If I return to Bhubaneswar, I would happily repeat the same idea. I would spend the daytime exploring the city, return to my hotel for a short break and head out again around evening. This time, I would probably leave the itinerary even more open and simply see where the food walk takes me.

Final thoughts

What stayed with me most was how simple the evening felt. I did not need a tightly planned itinerary or several long journeys across Bhubaneswar. A convenient hotel, an open evening and a little curiosity were enough to turn dinner into an enjoyable experience. Walking through busy market areas, trying local snacks and stopping whenever something caught my attention made the city feel more relaxed.
